The paleo diet is a diet that tries to mimic the way the
caveman ate. Obviously it wont mimic everything, but it tries to get as close
as possible by encouraging the consumption of natural food. It encourages you
to avoid all forms of processed food, legumes and grains. These foods in
particular have shown to damage our body
to an extent that we cant even imagine
Lets put this in context. To better understand what humans
ate during the Paleolithic era ( which is roughly 10 000 to 2.5 million years
ago), we are going to paint a picture of what life was like back then. The Neanderthal
would hunt for meat for his family while the wife would forage vegetables, fruits,
nuts, herbs and spices in the forest. This was very dangerous , but he would
then put the meat near a fire to prepare it.
This Paleolithic era covers about 99 percent of human
prehistory, and at the time humans were slowly evolving into homo sapiens. The Neanderthal
would make weapons out of objects found in the forrest. The type of meat
available to him was bison, fish and small animals that would provide easy meat.
In the modern world we don’t have to hunt to eat meat. We can
just go to the store / supermarket to get readily available food. Unfortunately
not all the food is Paleolithic , nor is it natural. So we have to source
organic gluten free foods that have no chemicals in them. Grass fed meat is
usually the best, while wild fish is usually the freshest.
Organic fruits and vegetables also have very little
chemicals and are more nutrient dense. Store chicken is usually fed steroids to
help it grow, so it would be best to avoid it
